Chair Repair
November 2024
This is a chair repair I did to a bottom rung. The chair had been repaired previously and had several issues that needed to be fixed along the way. I started with re-drilling the mortise holes in the leg as they were filled with glue and plugs, making sure to keep it aligned with the hole on the other side. I then took a piece of beech and shaped by hand new tenons on both ends. Due to the rung above it being loose, I was able to spread the legs to test fit the the new rung. As the rung had to be a tapered round, I made the replacement rung into an octagon, tapered the octagon, then rounded the rung using various hand tools. With the rung finished, I then did my best to stain match the new rung and finished it with shellac and wax.
